Found in front of the Andaz Wailea Hotel, this beach's name is translated as "sacred island" and is said to refer to a small rock islet that used to be just offshore. But this islet are not to be seen anymore as all remains to be seen of Mokapu Island are bits of rock sitting out of the ocean for they were blown to bits during the second world war combat training exercises.
Mokapu beach along with the Ulua Beach is considered as the best snorkeling beach in Maui. These two beach is both accessible from the free public beach parking lot.
